Lieutenant Akers in Stranger Things: Dr. Kay's man

Seven episodes, a unit nicknamed the wolf pack, a death in the lab. In this article: who Robert Akers is, episode 3 of Season 5 and the vault, episode 7 of Season 5, the assault in episode 8 of Season 5, and Alex Breaux. The trap set elsewhere in this chapter has its own article.
Lieutenant Akers is Dr. Kay's strong arm. In November 1987, in locked-down Hawkins, he hunts Eleven, gets captured, then comes back with a team. He does not command. He carries orders out, through the last chapter.

Who is Lieutenant Akers
Akers is not a scientist and is not the boss. Dr. Kay is in charge. Lieutenant Colonel Sullivan serves beside her. Sergeant Ramirez receives, from the first episode of Season 5, the order to find Eleven. Akers is that unit's strong arm, the one the show lets people nickname the wolf pack. The order does not change: Eleven, at any cost.
Hawkins is locked down in November 1987. The population believes in a natural phenomenon. The army holds the roads. Akers operates in that setting, with a lieutenant's rank and a very concrete role: to be where Kay does not go herself, truck included. Alex Breaux plays him across seven episodes. The character has no civilian life on screen. He has a mission.
The capture does not kill him. That is the point episode 3 of Season 5 sometimes lets slip, because the chapter is very full. Akers comes out of that truck alive, a prisoner, useful. His mind serves as a map. The map is misread: the vault exists, Vecna is not in it. Kali is in it, and episode 4 of Season 5 will say so. In the meantime, Lieutenant Colonel Sullivan does not write the man off as lost. He looks for him. A unit that hunts Eleven does not leave a lieutenant on the other side without starting a search. By the seventh chapter, the priority still has not moved. Burned Sullivan describes the sorcerer. Kay listens, then repeats the order to Akers: Eleven, at any cost. The gate he spots at the lab is not a crisis of conscience. It is a way through. The last chapter's assault uses it. The blackmail over Kali, the emitter in the helicopter, Murray's grenade, the return of the powers, then the bullet Akers fires into himself: all of that fits in episode 8 of Season 5. A stray bullet kills Kali right after. Akers, for his part, is already named among the dead of that finale. Not an anonymous hallway. A lieutenant.
Alex Breaux holds that thread without commenting on it. Seven episodes, a rank, a truck, a memory opened by force, a gate, an assault. The viewer does not follow him home. The viewer follows him where Kay sends him. Mixing him up with Sullivan would mix up two officers: one looks for Akers when he disappears, the other is the one who disappeared. Mixing him up with Kay would give him the command. He does not have the vault. He has only the memory of it, and that memory misleads Eleven once. The correction arrives in the next chapter, with Kali. His death, for its part, is not a correction. It is the end of a man who carries orders out, in the lab, the weapon turned back. The First Shadow, where the same actor plays a young Martin Brenner, is another scene, on another stage, in the literal sense. It does not extend the lieutenant's life.

The capture, on the other side
Episode 3 of Season 5 takes Eleven and Hopper to the other side, in front of a wall they cannot break through. A military truck approaches. It deploys a sonic emitter that neutralizes Eleven's powers. They still get the upper hand and capture Lieutenant Akers. It is not a police-station interrogation. Eleven searches his mind.
What she sees there decides what follows, and she gets the contents wrong. Lieutenant Colonel Sullivan, for his part, starts a search to find his man. Akers disappears from the military picture for the length of that interrogation. He is not dead. The unit looks for him, and the viewer, for their part, has just entered a memory that is not the right one.
The rest of the chapterEpisode 3 of Season 5 also tells a trap, a pie, a barn. That thread has its own article. Akers does not take part in it. His scene is the truck, the emitter, then the memory.
The vault, and the wrong conclusion
In Akers's memory, Eleven sees Dr. Kay enter a secured vault in her lab. She concludes that Kay is hiding Vecna there. The conclusion is false. Episode 4 of Season 5 reveals who is in that vault: Kali, not the sorcerer. Akers did not lie with words. He showed a door. Eleven filled the room with the name she feared.
That gap is the whole character. He is not the strategist who sets a decoy. He is the soldier whose memory serves as a map, and the map is misread. Dr. Kay keeps the secret. Kali endures the vault. Akers, a captive, does not even get to choose what he reveals: Eleven takes it. The link with Vecna stops at that mistake. The vault was not his.
What he wants to reopen
The episode 7 of Season 5 brings him back to Kay. Henry has struck the base. Sullivan is burned, his face in shreds, and he finally describes what he saw. Kay listens, then repeats to Akers the unchanged priority: Eleven, at any cost. The testimony about the sorcerer does not bend the order.
Akers, for his part, finds a gate at the lab and wants to go back through it. It is not a conversion. It is an officer who sees a way through and offers to go back through it. The show does not give him a public doubt, or a line that breaks with Kay. He stays in the unit. The next chapter will say what he does with that gate.

The assault, and the end
Episode 8 of Season 5 sends Akers's team to assault the lab. They threaten Kali to force Hopper to hand over Eleven. The blackmail is explicit: the vault's prisoner becomes a bargaining chip. Murray destroys with a grenade the helicopter that carries the emitter. Eleven's powers come back. She snaps the soldiers' necks and forces Akers to turn his weapon against himself.
He dies there, from a bullet he fires into himself. Another bullet, a stray one, hits Kali, who dies afterward. The tally of Season 5 deaths names him with her: not one more extra in a hallway, an identified lieutenant. Who dies in Season 5 files him among the three named characters of that finale. Hopper survives the exchange. Eleven does too, until the choice she will make further on in the same chapter. This article stops at Akers.

Alex Breaux, and another scene
Alex Breaux plays the lieutenant across these seven episodes. The role is military from end to end: truck, memory, gate, assault. No family shown, no first name shouted by someone close to him. Robert is the character's first name. On screen, almost everyone says Akers, or lieutenant.
The same actor played young Martin Brenner in The First Shadow, on Broadway. One sentence is enough: it is not the same character, and it is not the same story. The lieutenant from 1987 does not become Papa. The play has its own article. Here, Breaux stays the officer Eleven forces to lower the barrel toward himself.
