Season 5 was sold in two stages: a three-minute teaser in July 2025, carried by Deep Purple's “Child in Time,” then a full trailer in late October. Between the two, four months of theories. Here is what each video showed, what it hid, and the music that marked the fans.

The July teaser
On July 16, 2025, the platform puts the first look at the last season online: three minutes, with no explanatory dialogue, that show a town locked down by the army, streets ripped open, the group in raid gear, Eleven training, Max in a hospital bed, and a child talking to someone you do not see. The last image is Will, eyes closed, blood at his nose.
The date of the three volumes, for its part, had been revealed a month and a half earlier, on May 31. The teaser served to set a tone: that of a war, more than an investigation.

“Child in Time”
The teaser music is the most commented choice of the whole campaign: “Child in Time,” by Deep Purple, ten minutes of progressive rock released in 1970, whose vocal crescendo accompanies the rise of the images. The song is about a child caught in a war he did not choose; people read the title as a nod to Will, to Holly, to all the children of the show.
After “Running Up That Hill” in 2022, the show once again sent an old track back up the streaming charts, the week the teaser dropped.

The October trailer
The full trailer, released on October 30, 2025, four weeks before the first volume, finally shows the plot: Holly's kidnapping, Dr. Kay and her soldiers, Hopper and Joyce in combat gear, Henry Creel speaking, and battle shots in the lab. It is carried by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein's score, with no period song this time, and ends on the logo breaking.
It left out the essential: Camazotz, the Abyss, Will's power, Kali, and everything that touches the ending.
What fans had guessedThe images of Will covered in blood had given rise to the right theory: he would have an active role, not only a victim's. Max's plan in her bed had made people fear the worst; she wakes in the sixth episode.
The volume 2 and 3 trailers
Each volume had its preview, shorter, published a few days before its release: the volume 2 one in December showed the radio, Murray in disguise, and Max with her eyes open; the finale one, late December, was limited to a few seconds, without revealing a single image of the Abyss.
Where to watch them again
All the videos are on the platform's channel and on the show's. Watched after the season, they read differently: every shot of the teaser belongs to the first four episodes, and none comes from the finale.

The whole campaign, from the poster to the flight
The promotion started well before the images. In January 2025, a missing-person poster in the name of Jane Hopper, the civil identity of Eleven, was released: it set the starting situation, an Eleven hunted by the army. On May 31, at the platform's annual event, new footage accompanied the announcement of the three release dates. On July 15, the first poster; on the 16th, the teaser.
The October 30 trailer was posted a few hours earlier than planned, by mistake, before being taken down then put back up. On November 6, the show's anniversary, a virtual screening unveiled the first five minutes of the first chapter. Shawn Levy had interrupted the Star Wars: Starfighter shoot for a few days to take part in the promotion, the show's tenth anniversary mattering to him.
What the teaser made people talk about most: the new Vecna
Beyond “Child in Time,” the most commented-on element of the teaser was Vecna's appearance, thinner and more “spiny” than in season 4, as if the burns of the previous finale had remodeled him. The teaser also showed the town under quarantine, the children in military uniforms, Hopper and Eleven in the Upside Down, and Will back at the center of the frame.
What the two videos left out is more interesting than what they showed: no image of Kali, no image of Max out of her hospital bed, nothing of the spirit version of the Creel house, nothing of the mine or the briefcase. The scale of Holly's role, on the other hand, could already be guessed.
“Who Wants to Live Forever”: why Queen
The October trailer is carried by Queen's “Who Wants to Live Forever,” written by Brian May in 1986 for the film Highlander. The song is about a love condemned by time, sung by a man who cannot die. Applied to the last season, it says two things at once: the end of a show whose viewers watched grow up for ten years, and Eleven's fate, whose question of sacrifice runs through the whole finale.
The choice also respects the show's musical rule: a period song, released before or during the year the action is set. 1986 for Queen, 1970 for Deep Purple, both earlier than the fall of 1987 of the season.
