The guitar in Stranger Things: Eddie's Warlock, on the roof
Music · A Warlock · The roof
One instrument, one take, one cut rope. In this article: which model is on screen, where it is played, what the song is for, who really holds the neck, and what is left of the pick.
The guitar does not stay in a bedroom. It is plugged in on a roof, in the Upside Down, and it holds a swarm off for as long as a house is under attack.

The table separates the object from the legend. Before this night it is a high-school kid's guitar. During the night it is a sonic lure. Afterward only a pick is left, and a name the school will take three years to say out loud.

The shape of the instrument
On screen the neck is a Warlock from B.C. Rich, in the NJ series, with twenty-four frets. The silhouette is angular, recognizable without a readable logo: two horns, a body that does not look like a dance-hall guitar. That is the instrument you see when the solo starts.
For the scene shot in the Upside Down, the finish was redone. The starting instrument was black. It was given a red crackle so it would hold up under that sky. That is not a color fans invented afterward. It is the choice of the object that was filmed.
No price is added to it, no series to collect, no catalog line. The story does not sell the instrument. It plugs it in. The rest, pickups, vibrato, case, belongs to the maker's spec sheet, not to the night of March 27.
Eddie Munson appears only in season 4. The guitar follows the same limit. You do not find it in a garage in 1983, or on a school stage the year after. It comes in with him, and it leaves the story on the same night he decides to stay outside.
His band, in Hawkins, is called Corroded Coffin. The Warlock is the instrument of that life: a high-school kid who plays metal, not a soloist booked for a finale. The roof does not change the object. It changes the use.
The roof and the amp
The take happens on the roof of his trailer, on the Upside Down side. An amp goes up with him. Dustin is there. Eddie takes the pick off his neck. The gesture is small, and it says the object was already his before it became a diversion: you do not wear a prop's pick around your neck.
He dedicates the song to Chrissy. She died a few days earlier, in that same trailer, on the other side. The dedication is not a speech. It is an address, said before he plays, to someone who cannot hear it. The solo comes after.
The song is Master of Puppets. The album came out in early March 1986. The scene is dated March 27. In the fiction, a high-school guitarist can already know the track. The story does not need an anachronism for the choice to hold.
The roof is not a concert stage. There is no audience, no spotlight, no town watching. There is an amp, a false sky, and a swarm that has to be brought here rather than somewhere else. The instrument is a call.
Dustin stays the witness of the take, not the guitarist. The split is clear. One plays. The other watches. When the swarm answers, that split decides who comes down.
The diversion, then the rope
The night's plan needs time. Nancy, Steve, and Robin have to get into the Creel house while the swarm is busy elsewhere. The solo is for that. It attacks no one. It moves a danger.
The Demobats answer the sound. That is why the amp is on the roof, not in a basement. The more open it is, the farther the call carries. Eddie plays until the swarm is on him, not on the house.
When it arrives, the trailer door is still a way out. He could climb down, cut the sound, let Dustin pull the rope. He refuses. He cuts the rope himself. The gesture closes the way back.
He dies of that choice, in Dustin's arms. The guitar is not what kills him. The swarm does. The instrument only held the swarm long enough for the other team to move. The story does not turn the neck into a weapon.
He is not given a last line of triumph copied from another article either. He played. He cut the rope. Dustin holds him. Three facts, and the scene is told.
Not a weaponThe solo does not strike the swarm down. It moves it. Mixing up the call and the blow means giving the instrument a power the night does not give it.

Two guitarists for one take
The actor who plays Eddie, Joseph Quinn, holds the instrument during the take. He plays it. A large part of what you see is his hand, not an edit that would replace the body.
The sharpest lines of the solo, the ones that have to come out in tempo without missing a fret, come from another guitarist. Tye Trujillo recorded those passages. He is Robert Trujillo's son. The blend of the two takes makes the song as you hear it.
That split matters for reading the scene. An actor was not set in front of a playback invisible from the first beat to the last. Someone was filmed playing, and the bars the take could not hold alone were reinforced.
The choice of the track comes from the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer. A song from March 1986, already public on the day of the scene, with a riff you recognize in a few seconds. The angular instrument and the title answer each other. Without one of them, the roof would be a different shot.
That is where the shoot stops. No fee, no rehearsal length, no gear list beyond what the brand and the take made public. The rest would be a sheet filled in to look complete.
The pick, afterward
Season 5 picks up what the night left, not the person. The pick is returned to his uncle. Dustin keeps a T-shirt. The grave is defaced. The instrument has no second scene to match. You do not see it plugged in again.
In the spring of 1989, a graduation speech says Eddie's name in front of the students. Three years after the roof. The school takes that long to say out loud what Dustin already knew on the night of the rope.
The guitar is therefore not a relic people pass around. It served once, for a precise plan, and the object that circulates afterward is smaller: a pick, a piece of clothing, a name. Looking for the Warlock in the epilogue means asking it for a career the story does not give it.
Eddie Munson appears only in season 4. The roof is his last image while he is playing. Everything after speaks of him without bringing him back with an amp. The distinction keeps a finale from turning into a tour.
Three facts hold the article. A B.C. Rich Warlock, plugged in on March 27, 1986. A solo that moves the swarm, then a cut rope. A returned pick, and a name spoken in the spring of 1989. The neck does not come back.
An object from the band, for a solo that moves the swarm without defeating it.

Frequently asked questions
Which guitar do you see on the roof?
A B.C. Rich Warlock, NJ series, twenty-four frets. In the Upside Down, the filmed finish is a red crackle. The starting instrument was black.
Which song is played?
Master of Puppets. The album came out in early March 1986. The scene is dated March 27, in the last episode of season 4.
What is the solo for?
To draw the Demobats onto the trailer, away from the Creel house, while Nancy, Steve, and Robin go in. The sound moves the swarm. It does not kill it.
Who really plays?
Joseph Quinn plays a large part of the take on camera. The fastest passages of the solo were recorded by Tye Trujillo.
Why does he cut the rope?
The swarm has arrived. The door is still a way out. He chooses not to climb down, and he cuts the rope himself. He then dies in Dustin's arms.
Do you see the instrument again afterward?
Not plugged in. Season 5 returns the pick to his uncle. In the spring of 1989, a graduation speech says Eddie's name. The Warlock stays in that night.
